Husband, daughter reach agreement in Zsa Zsa’s conservatorship

Michigan readers of our blog may remember an earlier post that detailed a battle between Zsa Zsa Gabor’s daughter and her husband of 25 years over who should be the conservator of Ms. Gabor’s care and estate. Francesca Hilton, Ms. Gabor’s only child from a previous marriage, is satisfied with the court ordered conservatorship agreement as it requires Ms. Gabor’s husband, Prince Frederic von Anhalt, to provide financial statements and medical records each month, according to her attorney.

In the past two years, Ms. Gabor has suffered a broken hip and had one of her legs amputated, which left her confined to her bed. The court order also allows Ms. Hilton to visit with her mother weekly without having Prince von Anhalt present. Ms. Hilton filed for conservatorship last March because she claimed her mother’s husband kept her from her mother by isolating her and keeping her under heavy sedation. Ms. Hilton also questioned von Anhalt’s handling of her mother’s finances, as previously reported.

The agreement, reached through mediation, is temporary however as it expires in January. Even though temporary, the agreement is a victory for Ms. Hilton as it ensures her mother’s money will be used to care for her mother and not other activities or events, such as political campaigns. The agreement also ends any powers of attorney that the Prince might claim, which would have allowed him to sell Ms. Gabor’s Beverly Hills mansion and any other assets he may have access to.

Apparently the Prince has enjoyed quite a high profile in the media these past few years, including a 2010 run for Governor of California and a current run for Mayor of Los Angeles. Other, rather odd, media reports include claiming to be the father of Anna Nicole Smith’s daughter after her death several years ago, and an announcement last year stating he wanted his wife to be a mother again through the use of an egg donor, artificial insemination and surrogacy.

Prince von Anhalt and Ms. Hilton have been publically feuding over Ms. Gabor’s finances for several years. For those who may not remember her, Zsa Zsa Gabor was once one of Hollywood’s most glamorous celebrities and Prince von Anhalt is her ninth husband. The judge in the case, who also oversees the conservatorship of Britney Spears, ordered Prince von Anhalt to send cancelled checks and financial records to Ms. Hilton’s attorney every month and also requires him to obtain court approval to access one of her bank accounts.
